Grade 7 Music Course (Term 3) – Mastering Meters, Scales & Cultural Songs

In Grade 7 Music Course (Term 3), the concept of meters is taken up in detail, and time signatures 3/4,4/4,6/8,5/8,7/8 are discussed through song examples and theory. The Major Pentatonic scale is reinforced through warmups. A Malayalam folk song, Tamil Carnatic varnam-based film composition, and a Pop song are taught in this level, making the variety quite interesting.

The student’s palette of song exposure becomes very colourful. They analyse the structure of the songs ( and thus their genres) in this level. The key of E Major scale is introduced and sight singing is taught in this key. The complexity of the alankar pattern builds. The songs are very interesting. Karukare Karmukil gives insight into the culture and traditions of rustic rural Kerala. Grace notes are taught to sing.
