The Girl Spreading Light

Many years ago, a lil girl walked into my class… she was beautiful, and her eyes looked different… they had magic in them. She listened to all the singers in the room keenly, with her head tilted. When she heard something beautiful, she smiled, always. Her ears were the sharpest… they never missed a thing. When she sang, my heart skipped a beat. Thank you God… I thought in my mind. I’ve struck gold with this student.

Gold she did turn out to be. Over the years, she stuck to music and blossomed. Her voice developed, her range expanded, and her characterization skills were polished to a sparkle. She cleared top grades in Western Classical and Rock n Pop exams, topping the region. Her comments on her peers in the classes were always spot on, something I’m sure we all looked forward to hearing from her.

Now she’s cleared class ten with 496 marks out of 500. With a scholarship of Rs 60 lakhs, she is going to USA the day after to pursue her studies in Music and Psychology. She is the best example of grit and hard work I have from amongst my students. Very creative and blessed, she’s been lucky to compose and produce many original songs. All credit to her family for standing by her like a rock. She’s looking forward to this adventure of being independent and discovering herself all over again

I’m glad I could bring back the love for music into her life  I’m glad my questions about “what do you want to do?” helped her in some way get clarity about her bigger picture. I’m glad I could write all her scholarship recommendation letters… it was a beautiful experience reliving how good a student Hannah was!

All the best Hannah!! God bless you.
