Grade 1 Music Course (Term 2) – Singing Through Seasons and Celebrations

Grade 1 Music Course (Term 2) is a culturally significant level. This level features a song for Navratri and a song for Deepavali, two of the prominent festivals of India. Through the door hinge and related vocal exercises, students slowly increase their bass register while having fun. Warmups in this level connect the students to beautiful nature, and they start seeing the spiritual connection between music and nature. The last song in this level is a beautiful Christmas carol, along with other small Christmas songs that the students can perform confidently for Christmas.

The alankars (note/solfege patterns) are now in longer groups of 7, 8, or 9 notes, thus helping them understand that 2 or 3 small groups of alankar, when put together, can make a long alankar. Sight singing in C major has progressed to incorporate rests as well. The rests are taught creatively through animated story-based videos. The student’s understanding of notes and solfege is developing well at this level.
