Grade 2 Music Course (Term 1) – Exploring Scales, Intervals & Cultural Expression
Grade 2 Music Course (Term 1) may be taken by students well versed in 7 notes, alankars 1-27, and simple sight singing in C major. At this level, students are taught sight singing in F major scale through animated videos and a variety of exercises. They learn about intervals and how to sing fourths, fifths, sixths, and sevenths ascending and descending through fun activities and rigorous vocal practice. The repertoire ranges from a Prayer song to a rock song to an Onam festival song, ensuring interest and exposure.
The time signatures 3/4 and 4/4 are reinforced. 2 instrument timbres are taught. Body percussion and creating music with the body are a big part of this level. Activities like making a pookkalam (pattern with flowers) while singing the song will engrain the significance of a festival deeply in the child’s mind. Students are taught more details about the instruments Piano and Guitar.
