About Course

Hindustani Vocal  Beginner – Level 1 | Building the Foundations of Classical Music

Level 1 of the Hindustani Vocal Course is focused on developing the basic fundamentals of Hindustani Music. The students are introduced to the concept of swaras (notes), basic voice culture, and the importance of regular practice. They learn about the structure of a raag and how to present it in a simple form. In this level, students are introduced to the ragas Yaman and Bhimpalas, and learn basic compositions in these ragas to understand their mood and melodic framework.

They are also taught a prayer and a Bhajan, which help them connect emotionally to the music and build early performance skills. The rhythmic cycle Teen Taal is introduced, giving them a sense of rhythm and timing, which is essential for classical singing. To improve pitch mastery and voice control, students practice note patterns (alankars) 1 to 12, including the concept of different kalas (speeds). To keep the learning process engaging and relatable, students are also taught a film song that incorporates elements of Hindustani classical music, helping them connect classical learning to popular music forms.
