About Course

Hindustani Music Level 4 | Mastering Rhythm, Taal Precision & Dynamic Layakari

At this level, students continue building their understanding of rhythm and taal by learning to recite and practice common cycles like Teentaal, Ektaal, Dadra, Rupak, and the Bhajan theka. They are introduced to basic concepts of layakari such as dugun, tigun, and chougun, using simple swargeet exercises to get comfortable with these speeds. Students also begin practicing taali and khaali hand movements to develop a clearer sense of rhythm. There is focused work on Teentaal and Ektaal to help improve steadiness in tempo and the ability to shift between speeds .

A tarana in a familiar raga in hindustani music is learned, with an introduction to its structure and how it may include small improvisations using tabla bols and swaras. By the end of this level, students aim to keep taal accurately, understand its structure, and move between different speeds with better ease.
