Hindustani Vocals Degree Course (Level 6)

About Course
Hindustani Music – Level 6 | Building Voice Versatility through Taan, Alaap & Bhajan
In this level, students gain foundational knowledge in the tuning of the tanpura, learning to identify its key parts along with the basic structure and function of the tabla and harmonium. A strong emphasis is placed on the construction of alaaps and taans within the framework of Madhyalay Jhaptaal, focusing on 1, 2, and 3 avartan alaaps, as well as half and full-avartan taans.
Students work on developing fluency and weight in taans, ensuring clarity and musicality, while also practicing smooth transitions across tempos within the taan structures. Exercises include task-based improvisations guided by the number of matras (beats), sharpening rhythmic precision and creativity. Additionally, students learn bhajans in Ragas Dhani and Bhairavi, reinforcing hindustani melodic understanding and emotional expression within structured compositions.
