Music for Kids: A Joyful Introduction to Melody

Music for Kids Level 4 can be learnt by a student who has completed a year of learning levels 1-3 with Soul of Music or is exposed to the concepts mentioned in these levels. In Music For Kids Level 4, children understand note grouping into different numbers that they have learnt – e.g.: 2,3,4. Their understanding and processing of pitches are reinforced through the many simple alankar/solfege note patterns that they are exposed to. 3 classic songs in 2 languages (English and Malayalam) are covered here. One of the songs exposes the students to the festival spirit and festivities of the Onam festival of Kerala. It tells them of the story behind Onam and the values Onam imbibes.

Through the classic song My Favourite Things from Sound of Music and the discussion that precedes the song, children are engaged in creative expression – they figure out what things make them happy. There is a focus on diction through vocal warmups with alliterations that ensure students gradually learn to speak and sing clearly. In this course, they understand beat, figure that it can be grouped into 4, and that the grouping gets done because the first beat is stronger compared to the rest in the group.
