Music for Kids: A Joyful Introduction to Melody

In Music for Kids Level 7, Kids are trained extensively to use the Kodaly Hand symbols while singing the seven notes. Thus, the pitches and their levels are set firmly in their mind through constant reinforcement across the lessons. Having trained well in rhythm reading in Music for Kids levels 1-6, students are now exposed to the Staff for introducing the reading of pitches, i.e., sight singing. By breaking down a musical line into each of its measures, the student can correlate the movement of pitches upward or downward as they have trained already using the Kodaly Hand symbols.

The concept of patriotism is taught using the song Saare Jahan Se Acha (The National Song of India), for which the context is set beautifully by explaining the beautiful landscape of India. The concepts of Rests (silence in Music) are introduced here. Two new classroom instruments and their sounds are introduced here. The concept of soft and loud singing is revised. Children learn whole, half, quarter, and eighth notes through animation. The concept of instrumental timbre is introduced as children listen for the instruments used in the recorded film song. Through an activity, children move to music. An Onam song is taught, which adds to the culture-based repertoire of the student.
